Of all the different types of people that are in this world, I totally can see an MS fanboy doing that.  I'm not saying it is impossible that MS is directly involved, I'm just saying there's a very good chance they didn't have to.

Xbox games suddenly had the prospect of being more like Steam. In some ways better, in some ways worse. In an ideal world, the xbone would have been met with universal approval, but in reality, people have faulty internet connections and limited budgets to deal with. PC gamers have lived without a used game market for years, but the lack of an option to play offline is still a big no-no. Giving consumers the best of both worlds - a disc with which to play offline, and a code that binds the game to your account and requires you to play online - would have been a much better move, if you ask me.

Besides, it's the internet. People are going to complain no matter what.
