Cooptional podcast (particularly TotalBiscuit) reported that 2048 is a ripoff of 1024 which is a ripoff of threes. Plus he tried to demonstrate you could do well at 2048 just by swiping the same way over and over, whereas threes put some thought into that and tried to make it more varied/challenging.
I don't have a horse in the race, fwiw.
