Call Stefani Germanotta, she can get ahold of one.

In an odd bit of synchronicity, this morning I became aware of barbequed bridal gowns. The dresses aren't made out of meat, but presumably the bride would be, so it works out...

aw, Angus, you tried. i do wonder where that will go; if he's got an acting-for-idiots book, is he brushing up on skills for auditions? will this make problems with Faye's new schedule? as Ass.Man. she'll be in the shop a lot more, i'd imagine.

i felt so awful for Claire. i can see why getting your ears pierced later in life can be so important (it being a very traditionally young-girl thing, like it's common practice in areas of the UK to have a girl's ears pierced at about 18months old), and having your thunder stolen when you were brave - even by someone as well-meaning as Emily - must have been a real kick in the teeth.

i tried to articulate why getting one's ears pierced when one is trans* is important too but i couldn't do it without reading it back and thinking "oy, that's bad.." so all i got on that front is: i can dig why it'd be a big thing then as well.

Yep. I think she'd be cool as hell to hang out with, and it's always nice to have rich, famous friends.

I think that Claire just being Claire is a fundamental part of what makes her such a great character. If the gender issues and issues with transition were up front and the focus of her character, then she could come off as one dimensional, both as a character and an element of the story. Instead it's presented as what they (her issues, trans or otherwise) are, part of a complex individual, she's Claire, librarian assistant, grad student and trans person, not the trans person, Claire.

Insightful, and I think Jeph is doing something socially useful by portraying Claire as he does. He has furiously explained that the strip isn't here to advance a social agenda, but of course every action has results and in this case the result is that a bunch of readers have a picture in their heads of a trans person who is on an equal footing with the rest of the cast.

...person who is on an equal footing with the rest of the cast.

That's one of the reasons I love the QC Universe.  Everyone,  is on equal footing with everyone else.

Martin had a fling with a darker skinned woman -- that's still considered an issue in some parts of this city.

Hanners has a form of mental illness -- her friends accept that and work with her on it.

Faye had/has issue stemming from a childhood trauma -- that's ok we'll work with you on that.

Claire is trans -- yeah so?   So how 'bout them Bills are they a football team or WHAT?

No, that would require promotions to actually exist at Dilbert's company instead of hatred for the engineering team.

It may have been in the show, but didn't Dilbert get promoted only to become extremely miserable and hated by everyone? (If that happened, I'm pretty sure the promotion was a punishment)

Claire is trans, and has so far told one of her friends about it (that we know of). Her brother keeps expecting people to react badly to it. That none have so far may be only becuse they do not know. Claire herself has said that she has to live with that threat all the time (comic 2426).

2426 doesn't hinge on Claire being trans, though. Any woman could have had that exact conversation. (A problem we need to solve).

The danger from bigots is important to her, but the point is that it doesn't define her, any more than "cute indie boy" defines Marten. (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=30).

"Equal footing" doesn't mean she's had equally good breaks in life as the others. It means she's written as a full character and not as a Type.

If she's Transylvanian, it would go a long way towards explaining her Clairevoyance and biting wit.

Exposure to the term is pretty standard in high and middle school history books in the US (or at least in California, maybe everyone else uses Texas board approved books), mostly associated with the French revolution (in a chart of the estates) and Karl Marx. Now, whether people remember is a whole other story, like most of education.

I find the lack of cleavage to be disturbing. With a shirt that low cut, it makes me picture faye as just having a single odd lump for boobs. Or combined with the scar at first glance, one big boob and one that's 1/10th the size of the other one.
Faye doesn't appear to be wearing a bra, unless it's a balcony style strapless one, so it's not strange she doesn't have cleavage. Although not every bra makes for cleavage either.

I don't mean pronounced cleavage, but there would still be a line there or something. Being that chesty with a shirt that low cut would make some sort of cleavage. It's like reverse boob socks. Instead of the cloth form fitting to the boobs, the boobs are molding themselves into the shape of the shirt in one awkward lump.

That is usually how it really works, breasts, the amount depending on the individual's size and structure, are usually quite malleable. I'm chesty and I find how Faye's are sitting are similar to how mine would without a bra or in a strapless one. There might be a line for one breast slightly covering the other from a more portrait angle but not necessarily, or do you definitely mean cleavage or some kind of definition for the individual breasts pronouncing the gap between them? In which case I'd say it's borderline whether the top is low enough to see that.

I am large-breasted and wear tops like that to sleep in, with no bra. There is never any visible cleavage, because my breasts hang down further when I'm not wearing anything to support them.

In the unlikely event that Angus ever hurts Faye, first, it's probably going to be unintentional. Second, Faye has lots of defense mechanisms. Maybe too many. And they aren't necessarily good defense mechanisms. But she does have them.
