Valve's Week of Announcements
ackblom12:
Three big news bits are coming from Valve this week and the first one was revealed today.
SteamOS
Essentially, your STEAMOS device will be able to stream from any other computer in your household, essentially turning your entire home network into a private 'cloud'. No hardware has been announced yet, but I suspect that'll be coming Wed or Friday.
bryntheskits:
GabeCUBE incoming.
Thrillho:
They have three different games we need third installments of, so let's do that, yeah?
Pilchard123:
Don't be silly, VALVe can't count t-*trapdoor*
snalin:
This is pretty fucking huge. The big barrier to Linux as a true gaming system is the lack of distribution - if this becomes big enough (with it launching on the steam box, which surely is one of the next two), more developers will be developing for 'Lux as a primary system. I hope that happens.
Half Life, Portal and... Left for Dead? Anyways, none of those will come out before a big part of Valve employees wants to make them, and end up happy with the result. I'm suspecting that the majority of the people at Valve that's working on game development (rather than Steam or hardware) is currently working on DOTA2, so it'll be a while until we'll be seeing those.
