GarandMarine:
Oh my goddess YES. YES YES YES YES YES. FUCK YES.

We've NEVER had a good REFORGER/Fulda Gap war movie. That would be better then SEX if done right. Fuck me running get Michael Bay on that bitch, give him a budget, the U.S. Army NTC's "red" team (they drive soviet equipment/equipment modified to look Ruskie since that's what we fight most of the time) a bunch of tankers from Fort Knox, Fighter Jockies and bombers from Nellis, then call up the OPFOR fighter pilots from Top Gun. Then let ALL of those people do what they do best. Film it. Print it. Rake in billions for one of the finest pieces of military equipment porn that will ever be seen. You EVEN HAVE A BUILT IN LOVE STORY! And an Airforce wimp becoming a hard ass motherfucker so you non-Marines have someone to relate with/root for.

Holy shit we even have the Special Effects for it. The movie Battleship proved that.

Akima:
I think A Clear And Present Danger is the Tom Clanky book I liked most. You didn't need to be a military hardware fan to enjoy that one. The Hunt For Red October I read after seeing the film, and I think the book is better. He was never much of a stylist, and I found his actual writing rather dull. I lost interest entirely once he started writing implausible yellow-peril novels.

GarandMarine:
Yeah the Bear and the Dragon and the revised "micro" war with Japan are parts of the Clancy verse I automatically avoid. His Rainbow Six "anti-terrorism" stuff is much better.

Blyss:
Rainbow Six is one of my all time favorites.  I'm not a huge fan of the rest of his stuff, but that one was a masterpiece as far as I was concerned.

--- Quote from: Kugai on 04 Oct 2013, 15:42 ---Another good couple are SSN and Red Storm Rising Lupercal, but any of the Jack Ryan series are as good as well.

When I was in third grade I did what one would now call an SSN fanfic as a writing assignment, and I did a book report on Red Storm Rising in sixth grade english. I can't remember how well either of them were received, but I do recall that I did NOT get on well with the sixth grade teacher, and I can't imagine this improved things.
