--- Quote from: TheEvilDog on 16 Oct 2013, 08:05 ---I grew up in a town where our town walls date back to the 12th century (second oldest example in the country), even the town itself dates back to around the 9th century when the Vikings wanted a base they could launch raids up the river. So hearing Americans and Australians sounding so amazed that their homes date back to the 18th century always makes me chuckle a little.

"The Americans think 100 years is a long time, while the English think 100 miles is a long drive."

No idea who said that originally, but I've always liked it.

Sounds like the sort of thing Douglas Adams or Graham Chapman would toss out.

GarandMarine:
Google says it was a fellow named Earle Hitchner in Reader's Digest.

Storel:
Your Google-fu is stronger than mine, GM. The only attributed quote I found just said "Earle Hitchner", without mentioning any publication.

Then all I found about Earle Hitchner is that he is or was a music writer for the Wall Street Journal. Not the sort of person I'd expect to come up with a remark like that, but then the WSJ is not the sort of publication you'd expect to have a music writer in the first place...

Sorflakne:
The last panel is strangely fitting for me, as I just finished a hunt for a cockroach that took me through every room of my apartment, tore apart my closet, and basically upended half my stuff until I finally cornered it under a sword scabbard (don't ask) and rushed it with a vacuum cleaner hose and finally got it.

So glad to be moving back to MN next month, where all bugs die off for much of the year and cockroaches are creatures of legends.

--- Quote from: Midwesterner on 16 Oct 2013, 21:00 ---Turns out there are enormous earwigs. They're native to Australia, of course.

Huge bug warning

WHY GOD WHY??

Akima:
Spider body-parts in the coffee? What kind of cruel mocha-ry is this?
