Zebediah:
Here you go, Marigold.
Or maybe not.

Every foot-soldier sees only their part of the battlefield. Every person has only so much energy and time, and needs to triage as much as any field hospital. To argue that it is not legitimate to fight the injustices you face each day, unless you can fight every single injustice ever, is simply an argument that one should not fight at all. When aimed at women, it's another version of "Shut up and stay in the kitchen."

Agree on this.
The thing is, if it was brought up differently, there would have been a much different reaction.
If instead of "why is everyone upset with this, when this is also happening" which causes people to get angry because whether you mean to or not, you are dismissing what is bothering people in order to focus on something else that is offensive to you, it was brought up "not only is it offensive to x, its also offensive to y because" most people would be agreeing.
X Rights aren't a zero sum game. If someone is discussing offense to something, it doesn't make offensive comments towards other things irrelevant just because they haven't been brought up yet.

Bingo.
Edit: I agree it should not be a zero sum game. But when the general tone of the forums tends to otherwise, I'm going to be an ass-hat about it. Because when when people get comfortable ignoring an issue, it creates new issues.

Don't you see that the discussion on moderation is intended precisely to avoid us who are mods getting too comfortable with what we do?
In comic news, it's worth noting that Hanners, Marigold, and Emily have exchanged a few tweets about Marigold's clothing issue.

My issue isn't just with the mods though, it's more with the community as a whole.
Edit: Which is why certain phrasing was contained in my original rant to include the possibility of disingenuous intent when it comes to community responses to statements that are considered sexist. Some I suspect are using it as a socially acceptable way to lash out at others.
