It is discrimination, but I don't think it counts as sexism specifically. As far as I know (which is admittedly not a lot here), there are no appreciable differences between the various cases if you "pattern match" on sex alone. To take the analogy further, in our current society, sex seems to be an irrelevant field of the input record describing a person for the function producing the result under consideration; in other words, if everyone lost all sex differences, the result of the function would not change.

You must live in another "current society", and indeed another universe, from the one I inhabit. Frankly such a statement strikes me as grotesquely false.

That is entirely possible; after all, culture and society vary wildly, even over relatively short distances. :)
