I like it too. It's being funny and sweet and cringe-inducingly awkward. That's good writing.

Oh man, I laughed for a minute straight over this one.
Dale is so chill and unflappable about everything except the scary scary business of talking to girls. Barely fazed by getting bonked in the face by a door. Completely un-threatened by being called "pretty" instead of something more manly.
For these two, I'd say this was a successful date. No horrible misunderstandings, and they each managed to communicate their attraction to the other.
