Well Emily pretty much expressly doesn't have friends outside of the comic's circle of people. When she invited everyone to the lake party, she said as much. Marten asked when the rest of Emily's friends were coming... and the only one she invited were the people from the library and anyone they wanted to invite along.

I had a similar experience to Emily’s, except in my case it was learning to ride a bike.
