--- Quote from: Jimmy the Squid on 07 Nov 2013, 01:30 ---I can't think of any remakes that have been better than the originals. The issue I guess is that it's never films that need improving that get remade, it's the ones that are memorable and already good. Which is pointless, why fix something that was never broken?

scarface, cape fear, true grit, the thing, the ten commandments, ben-hur
all remakes of good films, and widely considered superior to the originals

I'm not sure I'd put Cape Fear on that list.
Alfred Hitchcock remade "The Man Who Knew Too Much" for color. I haven't seen the original, but I'd like to.
Silent films were often remade as talkies.
The best movies to remake are the mediocre ones. No one is going to defend those.

Wing Commander: It always boggled my mind that they could take a video game franchise where the third and fourth installments basically were serviceable movies and churn out an actual movie that was such complete, utter crap. Surely Hollywood can do better.
Starship Troopers: Ok. The Verhoeven film has its charms. But a movie that bore some actual relation to the novel could potentially be pretty darned kickass. Heck, it deserves a remake for the powered armor alone.

I don't know why Mark Hammil wasn't in that playing The Bearded Guy From Wing Commander. Surely the actors they used for voices and box art could also be used in the bloody film?

You will get no argument from me.
