Let's talk about Christmas, Thanksgiving be damned

Getting a mortgage is a weird experience. It's a meeting at a bank or some-such and they give you thousands upon thousands of your local currency and right after that ... a house and responsibility for the house and the money ... whilst all the time you just want to go back to playing snake on your telephone. (It's been a while.)

But you're right. Credit cards are from the devil.

After all we commercialise everything else to breaking point, Christmas isn't so special that it doesn't deserve the same treatment.

Lately I've taken the position of opposing new holidays just for fear they may become commercialized.  Anna Jarvis should be an example to us all.

A credit card is a tool, like a knife. You can injure yourself with a knife too. Just always bear in mind that any money you don't pay off each month is about the most expensive money you will ever borrow, unless you go to a payday-loan outfit, loan-shark etc. Don't do that. But you all know all this stuff already.

My credit card may have cost me a shitload of money, but it's also saved my ass a couple of times. Once I've got it paid off I'm going to keep it so I can use it as a kind of savings account, and occasionally use to buy something that I then immediately pay off to bump my credit rating up.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!! We went for a drive in the snow last night and found some good ones.
This little cul-de-sac at the bottom of a hill had some serious lights going on.

These two had, between them, pretty much every decoration available in town.

And this is my house, which is boring by comparison but one of the more lit up ones on the street.
