I remember reading about one where you hear on the radio about a father needing medicine for his son, and then you go underground a bit later and find two skeletons, one child sized, all curled up in the regular one's arms.

You missed the most important part of that house:
The crutches in the little kid's room where there is specifically not a body.
You know, like the crutches the sniper in Minefield uses.
