But I think in all instances it is your job, although I don't think that makes being a dick ok. I doubt many people who think that the two examples you gave were unacceptable would then claim that abusing retail staff was ok - it is all about the type of mindset. The people who are leaving their tables a mess at your place of work are then probably going back to work and making hideous demands to web designers or heading to the library and hiding books in odd places because they just don't give a shit. But you are being paid to deal with customers, and unfortunately that means dealing with dickheads too.

Yeah, I totally agree with you, but I guess the problem is that a huge majority of people have jobs that can be made more frustrating by the inconsiderate nature of others.
