Went to Halifax this weekend. Hung out with Andy, slept on her couch, hung out with my oldest friend Micah, slept on his futon. Caught a ride with a semi-interesting islander through kijiji. Drive was lovely, gorgeous weather and that bridge is so impacting when you catch it on a clear day.
Halifax is a neat city. Their market is ridiculous. I would say it is maybe 70% as efficient as a market should be be but probably 155% as cool and charming as it needs to be. I bought two sausages for breakfast which were entirely necessary and $10 of fudge which was entirely unnecessary.
Micah's older brother owns a condo-town house, they both work nice jobs in sales (corporate level xerox & medical imaging machines) and they have nice computers and a big TV with surround sound and Micah's art on the walls. Andy's place was full of bicycles and had lots of coffee apparatuses but not quite enough toasters plus a ridiculous assortment of interesting things on the walls.
I am glad to have seen the people I went to visit and also very glad to have met strangers (including but not exclusively their friends) who were interested in talking to me! This ridiculous fucking island is driving me a bit nutty, and it was really nice to spend some time off of it in a proper city with good people and incidental nice weather.
