The boat I was on had no running water and barely any cabin room so I wouldn't want to spend two months on it! But it was very good fun and some canal boats are actually fitted out for living in rather than transporting tar like that one is.

My canal holiday was not in Norfolk, sadly. That's a pretty cool place to go boating. It was in the vicinity of Manchester; I joined the boat in Marple and we went up to Bugsworth Basin, and then back to Marple and down the Ashton canal to Picadilly Basin via the Rochdale 9. For anyone who doesn't know their British inland waterways, we just pottered around the canals near Manchester. To give you an idea of the speed, it took twenty minutes to get from Manchester Picadilly to Marple by train and two days to get back by boat.

I don't know much about the manchester canals outside of the city centre (heh heh heh canal street, more like anal treet).

It was awesome for the most part, but we got stuck at the top of the Ashton flight due to shallow water and terribly maintained locks. Also the Rochdale Nine going into the city centre wasn't great.

Actually the lock on Canal Street was pretty fun! We picked up some boys from Queer and they helped up with a couple of them (and I dropped a windlass into the water and attracted a whole audience as we fished it out again). I had never really realised that there was an actual canal on Canal Street til I was floating around on it. They aren't the most popular canals so they're not very well maintained, sadly, but the local people and particularly the kids were really interested.
