I could make look spectacular if I was any good at photoshop. Certainly the desert is a surprisingly beautiful place if you don't mind the insane heat and flies in the summer and the incessant wind. Very desolate, rather nice if you're not the sociable type.

So there's this new sculpture that was plopped down in the middle of the quad this week. It's an absolute fucking eyesore.

Oh man don't get me started on the giant wheel. Particularly because I can't possibly understand why anybody would actually pay to get on the damn thing. First, there's nothing that you can see by paying whatever exorbitant charge they are extracting that Kings Park doesn't offer for free and secondly THERE'S NOTHING IN PERTH IN THE FIRST PLACE HUAGLBLGLBLAL

It doesn't really bother me that much though it is freaking ugly. I rarely go into the city anyway,when I'm not working I'm typically down south. Much nicer there.

It is a shame about Perth though, I mean it's natural surroundings are great.. it could be a wonderful city, a really nice city if only governments would agree/people would stop shouting down every development plan etc.

This. I've said before that Brisbane is basically what Perth would be like if Perth had a succession of governments who weren't vacillating pussies who made grand plans and then faltered, leaving the city with a bunch of half-assed "landmarks" and ugly, dated, concrete boxes on our skyline. The two cities have similar geography, population and weather but one has a lot of interesting, prominent architecture and a culture encouraging youth and creativity and the other has a fucking belltower and a ferris wheel fffffff

Also I don't think anyone ever goes "ok so we're going to put this plan into action", those development plans that are always in the West are just things like property types say they want to do or would do if the Perth City Council weren't such dicks. At least they've opened up the liscencing rules a little, we've got a new jazz club and at least one new bar opening (north end of Shafto Lane, James Squire branded, looks pretty promising) which is more than has happened in the last five or so years.

The belltower was originally going to be 3 times the size. I'd say it would've looked spectacular then. Even know I think it improves the foreshore, although it could be a bit bigger, certainly.

Also, McTag: while the licensing is great, what they really need to do is keep everything open later. More opening hours, people leave over a slower amount of time, therefore less assaults.

It kind of shits me the way the state government is going about the whole "Northbridge problem". I voted Liberal because of a few reasons.. However while i like their financial policy and uranium policy, their social policy really shits me.

Dude at least your city doesn't have a giant ferris wheel right in the middle of the city that is a running joke now because I doubt it was going for six months before the heat wave killed it. That said, federation square not withstanding, melbourne architecture is pretty sweet.

Oh hey look here is a picture of me. I like it because it looks exactly like me-no neck, kinda greasy, and lookin' like I want to die.

I probably did though; we were at a show and I remember it was a really good one and I got stupid on G&Ts and once I made out with that dude just to make him shut the fuck up. (no really, there was supposed to be a party and so I went with him to his place to get beer, I kept trying to be like okay where is it and let's GO and eventually my other friend called and was like "hey the party is a no go, I'm just going home" so I was like fuuuuuuuuuck I am way drunk and can't drive, have zero money for a cab and it's too far to walk fuuuuuuuuuck I guess I'll crash here. He said a bunch of weird shit that night too, implying that he was in love with me the whole time I was dating his best friend. I wanted to pass out and he wouldn't stop talking about kissing me or wanting to so finally I was like FINE but only because you can't talk then)

Is that the temple in Asakusa? If so, est stayed just around the corner from there when he went over a while back. It is a gorgeous place!

Yes, it is! We stayed in Meguro, but visited Asakusa one of the first days after a recommendation from someone who is a foreign exchange student in Tokyo. It was pretty cool.
