Absolutely agreeing with the above post. Nobody needs the amount of shit most folks carry in their wallets. I've got one of those Fossil money clips/card wallets which holds four cards plus cash, and I get along just fine, and as someone who does sport rather tight pants it is definitely a marked improvement over anything else I've tried, and I don't see myself going back anytime soon. I take it that seeing as he's told you what he wants, then you are not going to be giving surprise presents, so maybe just explain to him yr reasoning for preferring to buy him the smaller wallet and he will come around? Nobody should be disappointed to get anything from Saddleback, and yr logic is sound.

Were we talking about shaving in this thread earlier?  I can't remember where it was.  Anyway, point is that I get it now.  I've been shaving with a straight razor for the past few weeks, and it's been a lot of fun.  I'm not gonna lie and say that it's the best shave I've ever had or any of that shit, and I do occasionally nick or straight up cut myself accidentally, but it has turned shaving my neck from something I gotta do into something that is kinda cool.

Not sure I am that enthusiastic about it to get a $150+ proper straight razor though, no matter how purty they look.  Maybe later if I stick with this and it feels right to lay more money down on it?  For now though I will probably just stick with this shitty but functional WAHL with disposable blades instead of having to maintain a more upmarket piece of kit, especially seeing as I'd have to buy a strop and all that jazz too.

David_Dovey:
Yeah I want to eventually transition to using a straight razor but I don't think I'd ever be into it enough to get a strop and all that stuff, as far as I know there's no difference in quality of the shave, it's pretty much just the old-timey fetishists who go to all that trouble. Most barber shops that do shaves are using the straight razors with disposable blades these days, as it's easier and more hygienic. I've got my eye on this one.

Jimmy the Squid:
I just checked with my girlfriend and hairdressers and barbers are not actually legally allowed to use straight razors with fixed blades. They're apparently too dangerous and they spread blood-born pathogens too easily. If they have straight razors then they are the ones with the disposable blades.

Oh hey, you can get fancy ones that take blades?  Nice!  My one only cost me something like $17 because it's just a hairdresser/barber's one, not a fancy-like one.  (on the pack it was actually called a barber's scissor, I think.  Kind of odd)  I think if I want to get a fancier one I'll just get something like what you linked, Dovey.  I don't really like any of the ones in that store, but I do like the idea of eventually getting a nicer one that isn't $200+ and won't give me some kind of rust/metal-fatigue-based blood disease.

I may actually get a safety razor at some point to see if they are still fun to use, but I think at the moment the unsafe nature of the straight razor is part of the fun.  It's not something I can just do on autopilot, I have to concentrate and pay attention so that I don't wind up cutting myself too much.
