I was worried about the length:/ It doesn't read quite as short if I am not wearing heels, but the only flat shoes I have are leather sandals and I figure that's a bit too informal. Trying to figure whether I need to go out and find a new dress, or some hideous flats. Or just hope for the best.

Maybe if you take some tights to wear underneath the dress with you and put them on after the 40 minute drive there, but before you go into the building? Then you won't get stupidly hot from wearing tights in summer in the car, but still have tights for the interview?

I would suggest a new dress if it's in your budget and then go with heels.   The worry about the the length is less a worry about you getting a male interviewer (although there are some stone pervs out there) but I can tell you almost certainly, if you get a middle aged woman interviewing you she's going to have an instant negative reaction to it.   I'll give you two examples to my line of reasoning here:

1) I worked for three years in an office that was about 7:3 female to male. I learned stuff about the nature of women in that time that shocked me.  Catty, petty, mean, nasty bitches.  Not all of them, by any means, but enough of them, and some that I wouldn't have expected based on their dealings with me.   "Did you see her in that tight sweater today?  She's such a whore, she's just trying to get Donny to pay attention to her."   That's an actual quote I heard once while waiting to get coffee in a conversation between what I thought was two sweet ladies in their fifties.  Once they hit about 35 it seems like they get nasty regarding anyone younger and prettier.   Standard disclaimer statement: I know, I'm making a giant stereotype that has countless counter examples to disprove it.  I'm making a broad brush generalization based on non-scientific observation.  I'm not trying to smear all women

2) We recently a hired a young lady with a very nice figure on my floor.   She's not the first pretty girl we've had working there and probably won't be the last, but she wears short, tight skirts and push-up bras and everybody has noticed her.  All the guys are like "Who's that?" or "Wow, she's hot."  The women have much stronger reactions.  The women that I have talked to about her have all decided that she's dumb as a rock, sleeping with her boss (who is a giant fat moose old enough to be her father, I doubt she's sleeping with him), and was only hired because he's a perv who wants some eye candy and an office quicky.  The other, less prevalent rumor about her is that she's only working because she's fishing for a husband, and as soon as she finds somebody to take care of her, she'll be gone.  I've talked to her a couple times and never had so much as a hint of impropriety come off her.   So she's already labeled the office slut, and as far as I know, hasn't done anything wrong.

So my rather long winded cautionary tales there are meant to illustrate that you want to be thought of as the right person for the job who just happens to be young, pretty, and female, and not that you got the job because you're young, pretty, and female.

Clothes-wise what Manda is wearing is fine but the effect is ruined by the hair, which somehow makes her seem on the wrong side of casual/scruffy. I don't know anything about hair so I don't know what to suggest. I think Lunchy is right.

--- Quote from: Rizzo on 22 Jul 2010, 04:21 ---Guys. I'm in the market for a decent set of hightops or sneakers or something comfy foot-wise.

Pre-reqs:
Must be black or lime green or some awesome combination of both.
Must be size 13 and wide if possible.
Must be hard wearing and comfortable as I stand all day at work.

Does anyone know of anything that fits that?

I would say any higher end skateboarding shop would carry these, since every time I go to look at new shoes I immediately wretch at the neon colors on everything. I wear size 12 and really end up buying a pair of shoes every 2-2.5 years just because of how picky I am. I would say any basketball or athletic shoe would be much more comfortable for standing all day in, but skate shops would be my first suggestion for the whole neon green aspect. I just bought white pumas after the most infuriating footlocker employee wasted much of my afternoon.

me: "Hi do you have these [specific black nike basketball shoes] in a 12?"
her: "I'll go look. [...] Well we have the white ones in a 10."
me: "..."
