Lunchbox:
Yeah I can't get over spending big buxx on a moleskine when I got my little ideas jotting book at an office supply shop for $2. It is red and sort of vinyl covered with a little elastic closure. I don't need 'quality' paper to scribble shit on.

tania:
the moleskines i buy and carry around are actually yearly planners which are both tiny enough to fit into my pocket and have a really nice layout that i love and haven't really seen duplicated in any other planners - they have your blank week on one side of the page and then just a blank page for notes on the other. i have been buying one consistently every year for the last 3-4 years. also, because they are yearly planners, i obviously don't buy a new one for 12-18 months. they're also durable as heck and really do last the 12 or 18 months. $20 once a year for something that i love and works really well seems a good deal to me!

You honestly have no idea how many types of papers I have just lying around. (Either they are left over from art school or I got them for free from work.) Seriously, I probably have a lifetime supply, so yes, for me rebinding a sketchbook saves me money. Also then you can fill it with whatever paper you want.

I have one of the smaller portrait format journals in red:

I don't really like drawing in tiny books, so it's mostly for writing down ideas or notes. There are a few doodles in there, though.

Eris:
Tania, I got one of those last year, a little red one which was a hardcover and it was brilliant. It was small enough to fit in all my various bags, and the hard cover meant that it held up well being in various bags every day. Also that blank notes page each week was good to record how much I got paid every day, and which assignments were due that week, and to do lists and all that jazz.

The planner I have this year is awesome, but too big to be conveniently portable, so it just stays at home. Next year I will go back to that little moleskine planner again

I don't need these

No, you really don't need those. I've seen them on people before and they look really, really stupid.
