the bottoms ones are cool, I don't like that the bottom of the top ones are pale. all footwear is bettered by darker bottoms.

I wouldn't rock either, but that's just me.

So when I asked which pair I should get you decided the most helpful advice was to tell me you wouldn't wear either of them? I am missing the logic there.

But I guess they aren't made by Vans...

Nah bro, just stating my opinion.

Desert boots on the other hand. I picked up a pair of faux-Clarks a few months back and I love them, aside from being half a size too large.

the 899s are REALLY nice, like if i saw them on a dude i would shamelessly ogle his feet for probably a while kind of nice, but they are still red wings so either way it's kind of impossible to make a wrong decision here

I like the 899s. I mean I'd want them in black (obviously) but style wise they look cooler. Also I've worn boots with a similar sole in snow and ice and they're pretty good.

I got a sewing machine and even though I don't REALLY know what to do with it I am gonna start modifying the shit out of my clothes. First item: Shorten all my boring skirts and sew them to old cut-down blouses to make cute dresses. Use the scraps from dresses to practice stripey messy patchwork pillowcases.

personally i still like the 899s, like james i find ankle boots a little silly looking when compared to taller ones. i don't own any red wings but i was under the impression that well made leather boots are generally meant to be worn pretty regularly and will become really fitted and comfortable with wear over time, which is why i haven't put much thought into which ones will be more comfortable because i figured they'd all fit really nice no matter what (i could be really wrong on this). personally i think the pale sole on the first one looks really silly compared to the other two but again they are all nice boots so follow your heart, kieffer. follow your heart.

Mmmm.... I've got one of those, a  medium dark coffee colored thin sitting right next to me.  Is it sad that I gave it a little stroke just now as though it were sentient?   Also, the pawn shop next to my favorite pizza joint has a large dark tobacco in the window.  I've been so tempted to walk in and ask them how much.  Seriously though, how many brief cases do I need?

Doing it wrong.

In Dovey's photo, his bag is sitting nearby active train tracks in a rail tunnel beneath New York City, famed for several miles of graffiti murals and once home to legions of mole people.

I love me some Red Wing boots, but they do tend to be kinda heavy so they're not that great of a walking around boot if you're talking 8 inches and up. Some of their boots will have a midweight non-conductive toe guard in there too, so just looking at amazon for non-steel toes isn't the best way to go if you're really trying to save on weight. The ones you linked all look fancy ass enough that they probably went soft though. I don't do full-on grunt work anymore, but when I did I wore a pair of 2233's. Not as fashionable, perhaps, but they still looked pretty alright. Plus, I once had a few hundred pound roll of paper roll over my foot and didn't lose anything, so I guess I owe RW a recommendation.

I currently use steel toed redwings at work.  Great for work, but probably wouldn't wear them recreationally.  I definitely like the look and feel of the rounded toe opposed to the stitched toe.

So, uh... at work this weekend we are supposed to dress like "nerds"(because it is Tax Free Weekend, and we are promoting back to school stuff). I love wearing costumes, so I want to partisipate, but, uh....I thought I dressed like a nerd daily, so I'm not really sure what to wear. I thought about buying suspenders, because I guess that is kinda nerdy, and then I could also wear them with my vest because in my head that is the best ever, and also silly, and I would want a big walrusy mustache to wear with it, and a pipe and it would be hilarious to me!* But then I also sorta had a delima because I think I would get the msot wear out of black suspenders, but my vest is black, so maybe that would render them useless, so maybe I should get white ones, but I don't think I would wear them as much. So I'm not sure what color to get.

So I have three questions:

1. What color suspenders should I get?

2. Should I get suspenders?

3. WTH do nerds where?/What should I wear?

Classic nerd: black plastic glasses with tape around the nose, high waters, suspenders... Basically, dress like Urkel.

Current nerd: Wear a t-shirt referencing a game. Modern nerds have gotten better dressed...

For the female nerd: jeans in a style that was en vogue a few years ago, as un-spectacular as possible. A t-shirt (men's t-shirt, if possible), maybe one size too big to look good. Can be anything from a band-shirt of some folk metal band (commercial pop folk metal, of course) to classic geek stuff like computer references, star wars, or perhaps ugly tribals. To complete the outfit I reccomend ugly trainers, comfy, "practical" shoes, maybe even hiking shoes. If you go with the band-shirt, Dr. Martens boots are OK. No make-up! No nice hair! Maybe some leather wristband or Lord of the Rings-jewellery.

For today, I think I'm gonna wear this overly artfaggy shirt that I have, with a brown oversized men's cut cardigan that has ink stains on it from printmaking, a black skirt, beat up chucks, and diffrent legth socks. I'm also gonna wear some brown heart shaped glasses(that a super big on my face), and have my hair in a messy bun, ala Jeanette from the Chipmunks.

I'm thinking about wearing my mouth guard as well. It makes my smile look super nerdy, and it makes me talk funny. If I don't wear it by it's self, I may just keep it in its case around my neck, which is attached to an Xbox lanyard.

I think this sounds alright for day one.

Solid or striped?   Wool or something else?  Conservative? Trendy?   What are you wearing it for?

I mean, even though your choices are basically "black or brown"  It can get complicated.

Oh my is that an important question. Oh, and whatever yr budget is, consider upping it? I mean I know I go on about this stuff an awful lot but in case folks aren't paying attention: Leather products are probably the most "you get what you pay for" item possible. And I know that most people aren't necessarily interested in having the same pair of leather shoes for the rest of their lives, but cheap shoes tend to deteriorate within the first few wears, so even though they may still be wearable, they're probably gonna look pretty shoddy as well. I'm not telling you to break the bank, but just take the long view, and review yr standards of what "expensive" really is re: dress shoes.

Perhaps you can put some sort of leather conditioner on it that will help? Or maybe it is a leather conditioner that is doing it? I don't know. I only ever use saddle soap and leather oil, and neither of those generally leaves a residue.
