I have Adrian Peterson on two fantasy teams. Which, you know, would be great, except that I'm also a Vikings fan, so I'm probably going to be pissing myself with fear every time a linebacker so much as looks at him funny. I'm one blown ACL away from my fan experience being a complete wash for the rest of the year.

Dear Blog thread,

Sthlm's (free!) culture-festival ends today wrt the awesome music. I've missed a great deal, but it's been a great week nevertheless, and it's going to be a great finale.

Now listening to Jonna Lee. Have found a lot of new music this week :)

I hope it doesn't rain and hail like it did yesterday.

Hey, the internets. It's been a while.

My MacBook bit it, finally. The motherboard's shot. Instead of shelling out $800 to get it repaired, I am just saving money and pestering my old man (though that is a story for another time) to get an HP Pavilion I have my eyes on.

So yeah. That's why you have not seen me around at all lately. I miss you guys!

i went to guelph for my friend's going away party last night as he is moving to alberta permanently in september. everybody showed up, fun times were had. not so fun was when my google map directions lied to me in just about every conceivable way and i got lost on the highway and then in the middle of the barren country in guelph for about an hour because it was the first time i had ever driven to guelph alone, but i guess you can't win them all. overall, though, it was wonderful and so nice to see so many faces i haven't seen in what feels like forever. it made me realize all over again how much i miss guelph like crazy. i think i am really going to miss him.

Hugs for Jon!

Hey blog thread. Last night I went to a concert in Dayton with a boy. It was good fun! We arrived a bit early, so we wandered around the strip the bar was on and found an awesome record store and a funky vintage shop. I bought some teeny unicorns and fairies at the record store (2 little boxes for $1!), but sadly I left them in boy's car, so I will have to get them back from him. The show was at this place called Blind Bob's and it was a pretty cool place! We played Connect 4 until the show started (I whooped his butt) and then we watched a good band (Starscream), sat through a not so good band (don't know/care their name), and then the one we came to see (Anamanaguchi) who were also quite good. Overall, fun night.

Today was nothing spectacular, but I just got back from seeing Ponyo and it is super cute and made me squee a little bit. (Could have done without the Cyrus/Jonas song at the end, but eveything else was adorable.)

My new job is pretty cool! I've finished week one of training and it's easy so far. But it was kinda scary - we started with 35 people in the training group, and every day there were 3 or 4 fewer people who were determined "not a good fit for the position" and told not to come back. We're gonna be part of a call center for one of those medicines where the commercial says "ask your doctor if _____ is right for you." Doctors call the hotline when they want to prescribe this drug to a patient, and then we call insurance companies to see if the patient's insurance policy will cover this drug treatment. So I find it pretty cool, knowing that the information we gather will help somebody get treatment for rheumatoid arthritis.

Dear Blog Thread,

I spent most of the past four days doing epic battle with the influenza but I think I have managed to get over it without getting really sick. Despite eating horribly and being so, so unfit it would seem I am strong like ox. So yay for that. I still took a day off on Friday, though. It's not something I'll repeat soon I don't think because taking days off usually just make me realise how much. Feel like I'm wasting my life in my jobs.

Of course it isn't just a matter of finding a new job or career because what I enjoy doing most is nothing and as I understand it that is not so lucrative.

In other news last night I saw Coraline and I have no idea how that could ever be construed as a kids film I mean jeez

My second grandchild was baptised today - this meant lots of barbeque, with champagne.

I also discovered that my daughter-in-law's father is the Dave Blase whose cycling exploits are behind the story of the film Breaking Away, which I have never seen.

Congrats!  :-)

And it's a very good movie, definitely worth tracking it down. Not sure what you'd think of the real Dave afterward, though! (It's probably really loose with details I imagine.)

No comment...  But he was involved with the film, both in the plotting of it and playing a cameo role.

It appears that this film has only ever been released on DVD as region 1.

That's strange, it's one of the few great sports movies from the U.S. that's not about baseball or football, so you'd think there'd be some international appeal. Breaking Away was actually the very first movie we taped back when my family first got a VCR, so I watched it a LOT back then (ooh, shiny new technology). I still remember laughing like a maniac at the ability to make it all go fast forward and reverse.

Sup, blaggy.

So this weekend has been pretty cool. Friday night I picked up my girlfriend from the airport after she'd been in Austria for 2 weeks, which was awesome, it was so good to see her. I stole her for a few hours and we went and sat up at the flyover on the other side of the airport and watched the planes coming in to land right overhead. Then I took her home and we had mad makeouts on her trampoline.
Yesterday it was my cousin's wedding (!!!). The ceremony was beautiful and the reception was wonderful and she deserves it all so much and I'm so pleased for her. I drank far too much champagne and beer and god knows what, and danced to cheesy 90s music at the bride's request.
Today, I went on a picnic in the park and drew pictures with Kylie, then we went to another park and chased ducks, and played on the swings. I love Sundays.

My sleep schedule is messed up beyond all recognition. This is even worse than the jet lag from getting back from the States. Crazy, man.

Anyway I've had a fantastic week at a music course summer school thing. Most nights I wasn't in bed until five am and then up again by eight, but the tiredness didn't get me til Saturday night. It's weird but this one week in the year is more intense, more real and more important to me than just about any other point in my life, and I'm kind of scared that this might have been my final year. Things are very up in the air at the moment (til Thursday, at any rate) and I have no idea where I'll be in twelve months. I was sitting scrolling through the calendar on my PDA earlier and after September 5th there is nothing whatsoever in my diary at all. Nada. Nichts. Nix.

Feeling a trifle strange because it's very late at night/early in the morning and also I'm having a weird adjustment period after spending a full week utterly immersed in music and amazing times. It was the same when I got back from Eed's; that weird few days where you have to get used to not being surrounded by incredible people doing awesome things all the time. At least I have some things to look forwards to in the next two weeks: in a few days I'll get my grades and know what I'm doing next year, and then in two weeks I'm going to a folk festival where a few of the people from summer school will also be. And then it'll be uni.

So yeah, mixed emotions. And despite a week of no sleep, I can't seem to get tired enough to fall asleep again. Perhaps it's because I zonked out at 5pm and woke up again at midnight to eat the meal my dad's girlfriend had left out for me. She is incredibly thoughtful.

On the brighter side of things, I'm going on a clothes shopping spree with Lindsay tomorrow, and I haven't done this for like 2 years, so that should be fun to waste my last paycheck on. In DESPERATE need of boxers and socks and flannel and jeans and all that shit.

Well, that, and Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 and Dollhouse Season 1.

Blogs.
I had a pretty crazy weekend. On Friday night I got much too drunk and said far too much to two friends of mine, and mostly it has made dealing with their romantic relationship difficult, considering the history I have with them both. Well, you win some, you lose some. It was not a good night though, and I was feeling very down when I went home.

Everything was better in the morning though, because Live Nation concerts called me to tell me I'd been randomly selected and my Jason Mraz tickets were being upgraded -- to a "meet and greet" with Jason and passes to watch the show from side stage. He was so sweet and the show was incredible and I had a lot of fun.

Things like this convince me that karma is a real thing and you gotta just trust that the downs will eventually come up and the ups will be worth it.

Blog,

I wish more people would learn to understand the concept of the "Num Lock" key before they complain to me that they can't type in their bar code because the computer is broken.

Huh. O-Level/GSCE grades come out today.

This made me realize I have a lot more friends at that level than I thought.

got 5/5 on my first uni assessment, helped my friends stencil a dudes apartment with the hexadecimal encryption code for ripping HD DVD, and then cooked up some bomb diggity burgers for dinner aw yeah good monday

also was reading comics and followed this link and I'm not quite sure why they needed to define what a beard was. I am really curious how you use "beard" as a derogatory term

other things they have defined for us!

bad: sometimes it means 'good'

cherry: a pit bearing fruit

tranny: a really hard car to repair

cougar: a kind of wildcat (it is good to see they aren't just tackling the bias against GLBTs, but also making sure to take care of the bias against loose, attractive older women as well while they are at it.)

apparently this site is not an elaborate joke and is a legitimate attempt to cut down on unintentional language bias against GLB&Ts in teenagers but I think maybe they could have tried a lot harder, I guess

Blaggy,

I went to Wal-mart today to go shopping, and there was this adorable small child being carted around by his mother. When he saw me, he yelled "HEY!" and got this really angry look and glared at me until I looked at him, at which point he smiled so widely and starting laughing, and I laughed and waved at him, and he waved back, and then his mother gave me the evil eye and carted him off.

That was, in order, confusing, adorable, and then depressing. I am not a pedophile, lady.

Beard is slang for a woman who a gay guy dates or marries to throw off any accusations of homosexuality.
