Happy birthday.  Now you know why I don't try to make a big deal out of my birthdays, because if I did the universe would totally celebrate it by doing that.  Well, maybe not quite so bad.  Have a decent time, because it's your day today.

Also, my day got better, because the party was tons of fun.  I usually don't like parties with my friends up here in the North, because I can't relate to them at all (I'm only friends with people I work with pretty much) and I get really bored.  I expected today to be no different, but I made a few new friends with whom I don't feel so much of a disconnect.  Yay!

I was at a fairly boring party tonight, which turned out to be full of people I lived in residence with two years ago.  I didn't speak to a single one of them, but there was an odd vibe anyhow.  I did get to wish my friend happy birthday though, and then hang out with a couple other friends on the porch until one person started yelling and throwing people's bicycles on to the street.  The cops showed up soon after, so I went with my friends and made peanut butter brownies.  Now I'm full of chocolate and sugar and feel great.

Good evening.

- i got into my first car accident

Are you / your car okay?

I couldn't drive for like a month after my first accident. And then of course I left home for school, so...technically I've never driven since.

Sorry to hear about your birthday. Hopefully it is the universe's way of getting the shitty parts of your 22nd year out of the way first.

Man Tania that is not a great birthday. Here's what I think you need to do: pick a different day and have another birthday! Trick the universe!

I am so tired :( I went to bed fairly early last night, it was before eleven I think but I had to get up at eight and I was awake til three on Friday, for ridiculous reasons like "here's a film" and "here's another film". Then my friend said she was coming over but not what time, so I got up way early and sat for two hours waiting for her.

Bleh. Work today, and although I have a lift in I'll need to walk home and it's foggy and cold. On the upside cute supermarket girl is working today (on the downside we have like three more shifts together before I leave and I may never see her again).

yeah i got extremely lucky, dude ran a red light while i was trying to make a turn and i managed to get out of the way enough that all he did was scratch my bumper a little bit. he took off before we could exchange information and so instead i pulled over into the nearest convenience store and shook for a little while and thought over and over about how if i hadn't pulled out of the way at the last minute it would have been a much bigger collision and i might be in hospital or something. i know near misses like this happen to everyone all the time but... driving still sucks.

I remember this one time I was at a four way stop sign (it was pretty busy, being the morning and time to get to work and school) and as me and the guy across from me were pulling out a taxi came from absolutely fucking nowhere (meaning came around a curve going what must have been like 70) and shot by us both, as we were in the intersection. I swear he was less than an inch away from the hood of my car, he swerved after he got past us too, and just kept going. If he had hit me my entire hood would have been smashed and I would have probably gone right into the car waiting opposite the road he came from. he was there and then out of sight in less than a second. I was definitely awake after that, and yea, we didn't actually crash, but it was definitely a near miss, and if he was there a second later it would have been a serious, 3 or 4 car crash. that was pretty fucking scary.

the weirdest part is that in 14 years I have never once seen a taxi near where I live besides that time. and there were no reports of a stolen taxi in the news that day, I checked. (the phantom taxi? maybe)

My little brother got one of those. It's pretty funny how it skips straight from Genesis to Exodus.

...as opposed to the normal Bible which is a Choose Your Own Adventure that says to go to Psalms after Genesis and just meanders around before coming back to Exodus?

Today I learned to disconnect my car battery! I didn't even get blown up like I thought I was going to! Also I totally unplugged each and every fuse in my main fuse box and I was wearing a kind of nice skirt and full makeup as I was getting ready for a burlesque show (I'm not in it.) I was Betty and Veronica all in one. I feel awesome now.

I mean, I'm probably the least representative of the forums, but from your posts you just seem like a nice, generally decent dude with a few problems here and there. You're a perfectly cool guy all in all.  I'm sorry you're in a shit situation, but it'll probably blow over in the end if you let it.

I went to this party last night determined not to be THAT guy but I was that guy anyway but it was pretty fucking awesome anyway because I did Whip It at karaoke with my friend Jill and basically broke into a massive spoken word interlude in one of the verses bitching about the staff at a nightclub that stole my Devo Sexual Energy Dome and then busted right back into the song as the chorus hit and it was MASSIVE I am basically the most amazing person in the world and should apply to join Devo because I have the best Devo dance moves in the world (I will try to find the photos but I don't have facebook so it will be hard)

Maybe 90 percent of my posts on this forum are about singing Devo songs at karaoke but it is legit because I literally get drunk and do that song every third or fourth day of my life

To be fair I stole the idea from Stephen/ackblom.

Also WHAT someone stole your energy dome? Dude that is too much.

Dear Blog Thread,

Here are the things that are wrong with me at the moment physically:

- Tooth at the bottom and back of my mouth is chipped and the raggedy edge of the chipped part is rubbing against my cheek and causing all sorts of pain and probably an infection
- Ingrown hair on my chin making a big ugly red lump
- Athlete's foot flaring up again and itching like crazy
- Little cut on my thumb in basically the most awkward place ever making sure I bump it on absolutely everything, making it hurt like hell and harder to heal
- Neckache
- Backache
- Headache

and of course being an interminable fidget I am only making things worse, so I am poking the sore in my mouth with my tongue, picking at the ingrown hair and cut on my finger, and scratching my feet against the floor until there are cuts on them.

Dear Blog Thread,

My body, it has forsaken me.

My body is also rebelling against me. I have at least one cavity in the right side of my mouth that sucks. And the big toe on my right foot got a little infection near the nail that is gross, but I have had it before so I am not too worried but still a little worried because before I just went to the doctor and got antibiotics but now I don't have healthcare. America needs to get nationalized healthcare.

My body is not rebelling at all! Although I am kind of cold. And maybe a little hungry

Today is the day that my mum and stepdad get home, and therefore is the last day ever EVER that I will spend looking after their home when they are away on holiday. It isn't that I object to looking after the house, it's the fact that we live in a godforsaken hamlet about fifteen billions miles from anywhere (this is a bit of an exaggeration) so it is hard to do anything. I hate asking people for lifts to places, especially since most of my friends live in the centre of town so they have to drive all the way out here just to drive me all the way back, but the alternative is walking. I got a lift to work yesterday with a neighbour (she wasn't going that way anyway, but she very kindly offered) and then walked back. After an hour and a half of plodding I met the same neighbour on the road and she turned the car around and drove me home. People are lovely sometimes but I feel like I'm taking advantage.

And being taken advantage of! Looking after the animals, fine. Looking after the plants, reasonably fine (but I'm scared I'll kill them). Being expected to get to work and back without any transport and often with no available public transport, not so fine. If I got taxis into work and back every shift I would be earning almost enough to buy a sandwich.

I'm aware I have ranted about this before, I'm sorry.

In other news! The group I run to support people entering NaNoWriMo is going great, and I've successfully delegated some jobs to some awesome people. One of them is in charge of advertising and is insanely good at it; we had eight new members in two days thanks to her. I'm pretty excited for November.

As I wrote earlier, I failed the big, huge three-day test that I studied a month for called the prelim.  I have to take it again next year.  The thing is, everyone is making such a big deal about it and treading so lightly around the subject.  Whenever it comes up, they always look mildly apologetic.  I've started dreading talking to my parents, because the conversation consists of making a big deal about it and trying to make me feel better.  I don't feel bad about it, but every time it comes up, somebody makes me feel that I should.  It's getting really annoying.  Sure, I'm going to have to put in a bunch more work next summer, and that sucks, but it's not the end of the world.  I screwed up and didn't put enough work into it, and the professors are punishing me for my mistake.  People need to stop feeling sorry for me.

Happy Birthday!

These last days has been hectic; the election has been a big thing here. The results were not what I was hoping for, but the sitting, social democrat government has retained it's majority (yay!), so we're not fucked over. Sadly, there's no opposition from the left this time around either, none of the two (radical) socialist candidates who had a chance to gain a seat in the parliament did. Which is a shame, we needed that. But as long as we don't get anti-welfare racists, I'm happy.

Otherwise, blog thread, not much has happened. Some drama students from last year showed us a thing they had done with some ninth graders, which looked remarkably like The Wave. It was really entertaining, and showed just how easy it is to turn people into nazis.

Is it useful or just hilariously racist?

It's an anthropology book, so it's all about looking at other cultures through their lens and not yours. I thumbed through it, the thing is totally legit.

Really I just love the title.

So I start teaching freshman composition a week from today!  I am terrified and overwhelmed, but I also feel relatively well supported.

I ran into one of my favorite professors as I was heading home today, and she told me, "On the first day, you'll be so nervous you'll want to vomit into your backpack.  Then you'll be fine."  I guess I'd never really thought about my teachers being nervous when they began to teach--everyone seems so confident!--but knowing that even the best professors had those butterflies makes them seem a little more inconsequential.

Of course, none of them were just-barely-19, teaching 18-year-olds, but that's okay.  I think.

It's too bad teachers don't all take public speaking and possibly even drama classes before they start teaching, then you wouldn't be nervous.
