... Ok, what the HELL just happened?

I have a cousin, who's coming down with her kids next week. She sent me an email. This was in it:

"I want to ask you to keep a special eye on **** for me.  I told your mom that the hotel has a waterpark and different activities that everyone might enjoy so you guys will possibly stay there sometime between Friday and/ or Saturday.  Now **** doesn't look like a "regular" 14 yr old to me, so I need you to play Big Brother, ok?"

WHAT.

well if those stars are a girl then it makes sense? I am going to assume it is a girl anyway.

A 14-year old girl, who looks older than she is, at a water park (so probably wearing a bikini), may attract attention from other people her age (probably older), so her mum wants you to keep an eye on her in case something happens. Sounds like a fair enough request to me?

Yeah, it's a fair request, and I totally understand where she's coming from, but I'm the worst person for that job. The last time I spent time over their house, the girl (and her siblings) got on my nerves to the point where I almost went off on them. I promised to do my best though (especially since she's bringing the proverbial "barrel").

So one of my good friends is doing a massive experiment for school about marijuana. It involves him, myself and a few other friends trying it for the first time and giving anonymous opinions.
So probably Friday we are going over to his house and attempting to smoke some. Advice?

And this was okayed by the school? Even with the anonymity, that seems like it would be shot down right away.

Well, generally it is different your first time than afterwards.  I didn't get any kind of mellow feeling like I do now, it was just giggles.  You may not even feel any different.  You could try holding the smoke in longer if nothing seems to be happening.

If it does, though, be careful about it becoming a habit.  You're still in high school, right?  So you're probably in the process of figuring out your life goals and how to manage your time properly?  Pot has been known to throw a wrench in that part of people's lives, in my personal experience.  You'll probably be alright, but as a rule if you have homework you should take care of that first because there's a strong likelihood you won't feel like doing it afterwards.  Some people can function normally with a mild high, but it can take a while to find that balance, so I guess just use caution and common sense.

Sorry if it seems I am acting like a parent, my brother's just a useless pothead and I would hate for someone else to end up in his position because of me.

Edit: yeah, munchies might be a good idea.  And water.  Pepsi might taste better, but I've actually gotten minor dehydration from some of my lazy afternoons before, although I seem to get dehydrated easier than most people so maybe that's just me.  Try to get a glass in somewhere just to be safe.

I can only imagine that the friend said he would do a survey, not that he would convince people to get high for the first time so he could be sure of the veracity of the sources.

Well, either that, or they have a teacher who's openly looking to get fired.

The first two or three times I didn't feel anything, even while holding it in as long as I could. I figure I was probably doing something wrong, but I still don't know what. The first time I got high I got giggly and my mom called me crying because my principal was a big mean jerkface to her so I ended up bawling and making my friends take me home from the party we were at like 10 miles away. The second time I played with my boyfriend's belly hair for a few hours and that was it. I think it is pretty boring, myself!

The first time for me I was hanging out with my brother and listening to metal and that was fun. It wasn't anything special or life changing, just a thing, it was a bit like being drunk except I didn't get really depressed like I do when I drink, I just felt slow and sleepy in a really pleasant way. That's basically what is has always felt like for me.
The only time I've ever felt anything different was when I was at a metal festival that my band was playing at. The guitarist in my band and I (who is also my best friend and former housemate) smoked about $50 worth of pot over a couple of hours while sitting in a tent and eating cookie dough. We then went and saw one of the headlining bands called Dissension. They had huge smoke machines and all these red and green lasers going out over and through the audience. On either side of the stage there were burning pentagrams and the lead singer was a fire breather. It was possibly the best thing I've ever seen and I can safely say that being the most stoned I have ever been made it all the more fascinating. That was a f.ew years ago now, since then it's been the same as before, feeling slow and sleepy and kind of pleasant and that's it. It ain't no thing and certainly not something I like to do particularly often.

The teacher isn't going to know that it was us doing the pot, he isn't going to tell her that it was us trying the pot for the first time. It's just an opportunity for us to be typical teenagers and help with his project without talking to potheads. His teacher just knows that he is including the opinions of a few people.
I won't be making this a habit. This will probably be my first and last time until college. Even then, I don't plan on doing it.

If you like this teacher you should be aware of the consequences for her if anybody should find out. Even if you don't tell her what you're up to parents of school-children tend to have high expectations about what kind of behaviour teachers should be aware of in their class, and schools aren't exactly the easiest places in the world to keep secrets in. If any of this gets out after the fact your teacher could really feel the heat, or worse.

Personal use? As opposed to used for ritualized orgies or something? What does that mean, "personal use"?

Marijuana is decriminalized here. I think you can get, like, a ticket or something for being caught with it in small amounts? Basically it means that if you're smoking a joint you don't get a criminal record but trafficking is still a crime.

So would that mean it's legal to grow your own weed? If so, then why make it illegal to sell? I'm confused by these distinctions; either you hate weed and want to criminalize everything about it, or you don't mind weed and decriminalize everything about it, but criminalizing only selling confuses me.

I acted in a play that was considered rather good.

Good times.  :-D

Consider that dealing with drug dealers is by far the riskiest part of being a habitual marijuana user. It's not really that silly of an approach, although I'd rather see people take a stronger stand on the issue one way or the other.

I agree with that, I just don't think that being OK with growing your own for personal use is necessarily a hypocritical or silly view. The drug trade is more problematic than actual drug use, but decriminalization isn't something a lot of countries are prepared to do right now, regardless of whatever I may think about the matter.

So a friend of mine said this while we were at a 50s and 60s club night: "You know what the only problem with the 50s and 60s was? They had no techno." This joke proceeded throughout the night with him finally proclaiming that he "won't techno for an answer".

In hindsight, I thought it deserved a t-shirt designed by threadless. Of course I'm giving him all the money if it gets printed.

To be fair, if it doesn't make it, I might try to do something myself for it, I quite like it.

So my roommate likes to play Left4Dead while leaning against his window (we are on the second floor). He gets REALLY into the game, to the point where he's yelling and swearing and paranoid and all that shit.

So I got out the ladder, put it against the house, climbed up, and started pounding on his window and screaming.

I think he wants to murder me.

I have just spent the morning exorcising ghosts from Microsoft Exchange.  There is a situation when Exchange can generate error messages from accounts that no longer exist!  The ghosts have now gone.

And you didn't have to do it at midnight under a full moon? Very civilised ghosts!

You know what is sad?

Today is Friday. Friday is usually the day on which I go to a seminar about something I do not understand and eat delicious cake, but the seminar has been cancelled :( No delicious cake for me.

I have no cake ingredients, but I did go and buy a muffin from the canteen and make some hot chocolate. So the day is not devoid of cake deliciousness.
