I'm not sure he meant that horrible pun.

More peaty goodness! My supply of Talisker ran out, so it was time to go shopping. This time I get to try something new. Well, not really new 'cause it's Laphroaig. But this time it's something called quarter cask. The theory seems to be that maturing the Whisky in a smaller barrel for a period of time (towards the end) allows it to react with the oak barrel more strongly enhancing some flavors. And as fas as I can tell that's exactly what happened! Tasting has been a pleasant surprise. I hope you get to try it out, fully knowing that the resident woad-wearing coder most likely already has a few cases.

Absolutely!!!!! Also, the 15 year old is really good. For the most part, I drink the regular 10 year old, but I do keep a bottle of 15 year old and a bottle of quarter cask in the cabinet, for when my single malt drinking buddies come around.
And, of course, I always wear woad when I am drinking single malt. :)
I fully believe that Laphroaig has a secret step in their process. Instead of distilling the whisky and putting it directly in barrels, they actually put it in another container filled with peat, and let it set for a few extra days.

So earlier today on Facebook, I declared my intention to have a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster tonight, because it's Towel Day and there was an accounting clusterfuck at work that made my head hurt, but all the recipes I found (1) involve ingredients I don't have, and (2) sound pretty unpleasant. So I'm drinking rum instead. But how does one (1) go about collecting an inventory for making a variety of cocktails, and (2) tell what cocktails would be good if you haven't tried it before, and (3) learn to like things that actually taste like alcohol? Because all I have is spiced rum, vodka, Kahlua, and kinda-old-but-unopened Bailey's.
celticgeek:
You might start by looking up recipes for your favorite liquor (rum, for example), and seeing if what they put in it sounds interesting. Or try a small sample of a friends drink (they can pour you a sip in a plastic glass, for example).
