新年好! Happy New Year!

Loki:
Ohhey, it's my year!
Happy new year everbody!

Barmymoo:
Akima, or anyone else sufficiently versed in Chinese culture, where can I find a legitimate source of info on what year I was born in? My birthday is on Monday so different lists tell me different things because they've been simplified and ignore the fact that the calendars don't always match up.

Loki:
WolframAlpha knows!
http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=chinese+zodiac+01th+January+1970
Just replace 01th January 1970 with the date required.

Akima:
Loki's link works fine, and gives your "element" as well as your animal. :-)  It isn't usually the day of the week that confuses people about the year in which they are born for the Chinese zodiac. People born in January or February can be confused because Chinese New Year is a "movable feast" falling in the Gregorian calendar on different dates each year between January 21 and February 20.

Pro tip: There are Five Elements in Chinese astrology/alchemy/geomancy: Wood (木 mů), Fire (火 huǒ), Earth (土 tǔ), Metal (金 jīn), and Water (水 shuǐ). The word "element" is really a mistranslation, derived by analogy from the Ancient Greek (and thus Western) idea of four elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water).

This is the year of the Wood Horse, so I suppose we should all beware Greeks bearing gifts...

...but large wooden badgers are fine....
