It was great to find some other people here who also know a bit more about football. I taught a good friend of mine the most basic rules before the game, so he would at least understand what was going on. He was very happy about it. And after the first twelve seconds of the game I was glad I had explained what a Safety is as well.

I have a mental block about football. I can't understand the rules to save my life, no matter how many times they were explained.
I think it has to do with HS gym. The only thing we did outdoors was football. I transferred in, and had never been exposed to the game (my junior high was all about soccer).
Was thrown on the front line with absolutely no explanation of jack shit. Got pummelled, had no idea WTF I was supposed to be doing, watching, objectives, rules, nothing.
I hate the game. Literally.

My middle school gym teacher did that too. It was flag football, no tackle, but still - he assumed we all knew the rules already and just said "blah blah counts as a first down, GO!"
