I hope the parents raised a stink over their kids being punished for opting out.

They tried to, as far as I can remember. But nothing ever came of it. The douchebag principal was fired on an unrelated matter later that year anyway. I would have opted out but I was part of the school choir, so I *had* to be there.
Anyway, this thread is becoming less and less pointless by the minute.
