My intent is to show that whether to post gruesome or potentially upsetting images is controversial in other settings, and the discussion may be a public one, a discussion the OP might have noticed elsewhere. Newspapers I read sometimes apologize in print for running a photo of, say, a body on the street after an accident. The considerations are similar: As Aimless put it, empathy, consideration and tact.
