Speaking as a male moderator, the boobs discussion was lifting the needle on the creepiness meter. Pushback is appropriate.
Well, considering that boobs and butts and sexual encounters appear frequently in QC, it is difficult to totally avoid the subject in the Forum. I assume that people who are easily offended, neither read the comics nor the Forum. Still, the Forum should not have a higher creepiness factor than the comics.
Will anybody be offended? In all probability, the answer is yes, unless you post pictures of cute kittens. Be careful.
This is so not the point! You're missing the point completely. First of all: Just because it's done in the comic (mostly for the effect of comedy) doesn't mean it's a great idea in real life. The characters sometimes also act dumb or mean, doesn't mean the readers should.
Secondly, the in-comic characters joking around about butts and boobs in a circle of friends is still something very different from people here assessing whether they prefer Faye's boobs to Marigold's etc. or generally making judgements about women's (or men's, for that matter) bodies or behaviours.
If you look at this forum, you will find that almost any topic, no matter how sensitive or private or controversial, from politics to racism to gender to sex, has been discussed here in a respectful and sensible manner (of course not without slips and some further discussion about what is acceptable and what isn't). When someone (especially the moderators) call you out on something you say, your reaction shouldn't be "Boo, people are easily offended here" it should be "What could I have written that was overly generalised, objectifies someone, is stereotypical in a bad way, or shows the way in which I think about minorities or marginalised groups in society in a bad light?" It doesn't mean that you have to agree with other people's opinion and also, people might sometimes misunderstand you, but you should at least question what you said to see whether their complaint was reasonable. Examining your own views and also sometimes admitting if you were wrong is part of being a decent person. If people are offended, there is usually a reason. Only very few people get offended purely for their own pleasure.
Ok, I promise I'm going to drop it now. Back to the comic discussion!
