Moment of the Week?!

If you're still not comfortable with me stayin' here...
If... if Dale says it's okay, then you can stay.
Friends? S-sure.
Now that we're friends, let's talk about your AMAZING RACK.
So, you guys are cool now? SUPER cool. (Marigold tries to protest)
She'll be propped up in a corner if they need her.
Won't make fun of their fuckin' noises.
Unless you make really funny ones. Like, whale noises. All weeeeeeeooooo
Mom just signed the lease for "a LOVELY one-bedroom apartment on Main street."
Wow. (Is that a good wow or a bad wow?)
Those apartments are WAY overpriced. (She's from California. Your prices are LAUGHABLE.)
Want really cheap rent? Nice apartment in Savannah just smilin' at the right people.
Hannelore and her hat says Hi to Martenmom!
How did your date go? Well, I'm moving up here. Oh my gosh
(furtive looks) did you kiss Yes. (OH MY GOSH)
Time for May to go look for work! Um... (What?)
Don't you have something different to wear?
All they give us is these coveralls, fuckbarn.
How do they expect you to find work wearing a "HEY I WAS IN JAIL" sign?
100 bucks for "necessities" but there's no way I'm spendin' that on CLOTHES.
I don't wanna know what you think qualifies as a "necessity."

Yeah, 175cm is definitely tall for a woman here in the States and 185cm is very tall.

See:
http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/2012/tables/12s0209.pdf

(175cm is a hair under 5'9" and 185cm is a bit less than 6'1".)

Can someone please explain the joke behind 'space ham'? I know which strip it's from, but I don't understand why it's a meme on the forum. It seems every poll here has 'space ham' or 'spathe ham' as one of the options. And I want to know what I'm voting for.

Because it's a meme. It's something that tickled the funny bone of enough forum goers that it's become a 'thing' here. It's really just as simple as that.

It's getting to be like a Saturday Night Live sketch. Take an idea that was mildly cute or funny the first time, and repeat 'til it's lost whatever spark it had.

Just my opinion, mind you. YMMV.

I was wondering... How humanoid a machine can be without needing human clothing?

Or maybe due to loopholes they technically aren't obliged to wear clothes, they just do it to better blend in society...

I'd assumed all along that humanoid AIs did it to appear conventional; Pintsize wears his tie for "dates" as a social convention but clearly doesn't feel the need to wear anything.

The Idoru staff wear quasi-uniform clothing to indicate job status and indicate that "human" social conventions should be employed when interacting with them. Whether Momo really has any actual anatomical details, who knows but certainly if she walked around "uncovered" that would be tantamount to saying "I'm a machine not covered by human conventions".

May's orange suit is a prison uniform, then. This suggests in turn that she had no clothes to return on release and hence, wasn't previously humanoid, or maybe effects are returned to the original owner or sold, who knows. I'd guess that the "hundred bucks for essentials" is for transport; AIs don't eat and are capable of walking but that's not always a good way to get about, too slow. Presumably they need recharging in some way? That won't be free. They have internet capability and therefore, presumably have data charges if using public networks.

Momo was referred to as having "needs" as a throw-away joke on a couple of occasions, but AIs have needs in a literal sense, too

Actually, May could possibly get a really good job working as a security consultant.  IRL, 5 years in Federal prison did wonders for Mitnick's career.  May's time in the inside might translate into a similarly nice position with a bank.  After all, it takes a thief to catch one.  Even though she got caught in the end, there's no way she could have stolen what she did without some serious skills.

I think what we're seeing here is that AnthroPC's are both "good" and "bad". For Pintsize, there's Winslow; for Momo, there's May. (The AnthroUnixPC is just... well, out there.)

How is Pintsize "bad" by any stretch of the imagination?

Remember what the salesperson said after the biometrics indicated that Pintsize was the most compatible companion for Marten?

"Oookay, before you meet your new companion, I should probably go over our return procedure. And our criminal liability agreement. And our insurance policies."

So even before Pintsize and Marten first got together, Pintsize already had a reputation for property damage and criminal behavior. How is that not bad?
