The art gallery of gunsmithing is not so much "Measure twice, cut once" as it is measure a couple hundred times. Cut and once. Measure some more then file to tolerance.

Then again, as my grampa once said in the middle of a project, "Damn! That's twice I cut it off, and it's still too short!"

Eh. Fucking up steel is just keeping iron miners and foundries in business.
The result of 5 and 1/2 man hours of blood sweat and tears today? A very shiny square. That's about it. I doubt I'm going to get a terribly good grade on this initial project.
