The correct term is 'mericans, and those are Standard Freedom Units™ you're referring to.

If you want to be all technical about it, the mile is a metric unit.  :roll:

If I'm going to create a new unit (the person-length) and define it as 176.50815 centimeters, no one would call it a metric unit but it'd be as much as one as the mile. >_>
