Outdated, but instructions here. If they moved the pref somewhere else, just google "pop-up blocker safari $current_OS_version" Also, IIRC, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and iCab can all be run from a thumb-drive if you decide to actually go for the "other browser" option.
