I agree with your sentiment on Civ 4. Most of my issue with it stems from the fact that armies can stack infinitely.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. Ever tried to conquer a city stacked with fortified Longbowmen? Good luck with that. Those arrows will pierce your tank's armor like they are made of depleted uranium.
You could stack armies in Civ 3 too but somehow it felt more balanced then. Or maybe that's nostalgia speaking, I was pretty young when I first played it, I dunno...

I was playing CIVILIZATION in 1992 on a 386DX.

I'd play it NOW if I could find a Win7 compliant version.
