Damn you, Willis! (Dumbing of Age)

Neko_Ali:
I wonder how Amber will enjoy jail...

bhtooefr:
She's in Indiana, which has a robust stand your ground law, and it's against someone who has threatened bodily harm to both her and two third persons, in a manner that is a forcible felony, and on her literal doorstep, satisfying basically every condition of deadly force being justified under the SYG law (and only one is required). She is female, which is a disadvantage, against a politically connected presumed cis white man, but she's conventionally attractive and white herself.

She might be OK here, depending on how good the campus/city police and prosecutor are. (I wouldn't have hope for them being good enough if it were, say, Sal or Asma, though, doing this.)

And, not only that, but I suspect she's better off legally if he dies from the injuries she inflicted, as people in the comments have suggested. Otherwise, it becomes a he-said-she-said scenario. (Mentally is another story...)

Method of Madness:
If he's not dead, I'll be shocked. That seemed like a punch to assist the disarm, then a very efficient slitting of his throat. I could be wrong, but...bye, whatever the fuck your name was.

sitnspin:
Don't get me wrong, I'd totally want "Ryan" dead even if he was a real person, more so, even. If I had Amber's training when I was sexually assaulted, the guy would not have lived to hurt more girls after me like he did. Hell, I am mostly recovered from the trauma of it now, after years of therapy, but I still can't say with confidence that I wouldn't hurt him if I saw him again now that I have the skills to do so.

However, I like Amber and I don't want her to do something that she'll have to suffer unrecoverable consequences for. Amber has a moral code that I do not and I think killing this douchebag would break that and, as a result, break her. She already hates herself too much as it is, which I also can totally identify with.

That said, the world would be a better place with out Rapey McScarface and I only wish there really was a hell for him to burn in.

Neko_Ali:
I don't condemn her for what she's done. But she disarmed him, started beating him, then stabbing him. That goes beyond self defense. And this is not the first time she's stabbed someone as an act of aggression. I'm sure if she had a good lawyer she could argue the case for Stand Your Ground. Who's going to be paying for that though? Certainly not her father. Not the school who just had another violent attack on campus that could have turned deadly. One that Amazi-girl was involved in, by the way. If it comes out that Amber is Amazi-girl here, I could very well see a DA deciding to throw a book at her to remove a dangerous vigilante from the streets.

Note there were no 'air quotes' there. Amber is not some random person who got caught up in the moment out of fear. This is someone with serious untreated mental health issues going around looking for excuses to beat people up. Something like this happening was inevitable. She wasn't going to stop or get help unless she or someone else gets seriously hurt and the whole Amazi-Girl thing exploded. Also, now Dorothy sees who she's been protecting. The growing horror as she continues to attack Ryan shows that she's horrified at what Amber is capable of. Up until now it was sunshine and stopping purse snatchers.

Also, look Amber's face in the final panel of yesterday's comic. She's been waiting for something like this to happen. She's been waiting for someone to give her the excuse to cut loose and unleash all her anger and frustration on. That was a complete 'I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with ME!' moment. I know that feeling. Way more times than I've been comfortable with I've been in that place, where I wanted more than anything else for someone to pull a weapon on me so I could unleash all of my anger and frustration on someone who 'deserved it'. So that I could murder someone with my bare hands without concern for my own safety or future. Fortunately, I have had the self control and wisdom to get away from people when I feel like that until I calm down. Amber puts on a costume and goes looking for someone to attack her. She is not well, and if she doesn't suffer the consequences of this, she's only going to get worse.
