--- Quote from: Method of Madness on 06 Oct 2017, 08:24 ---I read all of DoA a while back so I could take part in this thread, then I tried reading the other stuff and got a couple years in and...just didn't really wanna read anymore. I still read DoA more or less every day (sometimes I forget and have to catch up but rarely more than a week, mostly because I'll see someone posted here and that reminds me).

I must admit I do question the (almost constant) recycling of stories and characters.
And what seems to be a need to utterly change what has become familiar.
(Case in point, "Shortpacked". I really liked Shortpacked, but then he went and changed the *main cast* while keeping the venue the same, and Supercar, and I must admit I wanted it to end.
The varying versions of It's Walky (or Joyce and Walky... (I don't even know if I've seen all of them due to the way they are presented online)) were alright, but just got a bit ridiculous.
He does seem to like sticking with a theme.
Either people come back from the dead with annoying regularity
or
Everyone's a superhero,
or
Everyone is Gay/Bisexual.

Hey, something has just occurred to me that might explain why Joyce is being so difficult at Jacob's church.
We know that Joyce has a very mild compulsive disorder. She doesn't like foods that contain mixtures of components that she can't easily separate into their constituent parts. She doesn't like them to the point where her family have known her to go without food rather than confront something like that.
Now, add on top of that the indoctrination she has had since childhood and just try to imagine how badly it would impact upon her being forced to confront forms of worship that are so different up close and personal, especially things that might also impinge on phobias she might have about germs and the like. It would be bad, I think. Maybe even meltdown bad.
Method of Madness:
It's just interesting that she can look past the hateful shit about LGBT people and come to her own conclusion, but that she's so stuck on grape juice.
Neko_Ali:
She only confronted her feelings about LGBT people after Becky came out to her. Her life long friend and sister in everything but blood. And that wasn't exactly smooth and easy. But she has embraced it now. Joyce doesn't deal all that well with change in general. The way she was brought up prized doing things a certain way. She's being forced to deal with many of her preconceived notions being wrong. And in this case she's understood worship to be done a certain way and embraces that entirely. She genuinely enjoys going to church and participating in services as we've seen time and again. And now here's Jacob, a man she admires and maybe even likes and he's doing it all wrong in her eyes. Just one more case of 'everything I'd understood up till now is being challenged'. And she's not really been able to take the time to process all the changes in between, so yeah.. She's more than a little freaked out.
Method of Madness:
Thanks. That makes it easier to understand.
