Damn you, Willis! (Dumbing of Age)
BenRG:
I, for one, never imagined that I'd be shipping Jacob with Joyce as strongly as I am after 11/19's strip. There are huge issues standing in the way of course, most of them under the heading of 'Raidah' and I don't think that they can be trivialised. Not least of the reasons is that, whilst I can see Joyce shoving Jacob towards Sarah, I can't see her having the mindset to think "I am better for Jacob than Raidah" and then actively seeking to subvert the relationship.
That said, I do like Becky in today's strip. She's over the 'Joyce' hump in many ways, seeing that Joyce's 'type', gender issues aside, is a very different person from her. She still feels the ache but she's more focussed on her shock at just what is Joyce's type. Maybe she's wondering if she really understood her sister's romatic preferences at all!
BenRG:
I love 11/23's strip for two distinct reasons: Firstly, it reminds us just how screwed up are Joe's self-esteem and his perception of what 'healthy' relationships with women are supposed to be like. Secondly because I find the prospect of Joyce spending a morning window-shopping in the Boy Mall funny for some reason. :-D
I wonder she'll subconsciously put on a show of her own? After all, she is down there for a date with a treadmill!
JoeCovenant:
What will be interesting is if she starts 'subconsciously' flirting with Jacob again...
One would imagine that Joe will SO call her on it!
THAT will be fun...
BenRG:
I'm expecting Joyce to get extra jumpy around Jacob and maybe Joe, now that a part of her mind seems to have recognised that:
* She's a hetrosexual woman;
* There is a part of her that is very, very interested in well-constructed male bodies.Something tells me that Sarah is going to have to deal with being a mentor for a girl going through the mental end of puberty for the next while!
JoeCovenant:
Now... as you all probably already know...
I *hate* shipping (I even dislike the term...)
But if I were forced to choose... of the two of them...?
Joyce and Joe would be a better fit.
I don't see much growth in Joyce/Jacob, other than Joyce (Eek!) learning a different way to church.
(Or Jacob vice versa)
Whereas Joe /Joyce would have FAR more scope for lots of character development and a ton more comedic possibilities.
And, you know, s'still a comic!
(Unless, of course, Willis is going all out with the Drama Tag in the near future...?)
