Or that housing might just end up being a pine box.  Or a cigar box, in Yelling Bird's case.

GarandMarine:

In other news, that's a tastefully tacticool AR-15 ST is holding.  Jeph's drawing style makes for some surprisingly cool-looking guns.

Tastefully tacticool is a contradiction in terms.

Akima:

--- Quote from: Roxtar on 22 Dec 2014, 15:38 ---seriously... we men are taught from childhood: "don't hit girls"... violence against women is vilified above all else save violence against children.

In a tiny subset of humanity, restricted by geography, culture, history and socio-economic status. Talking about this walled garden as if it were somehow universal, or even usual, is dubious. If you're going to be against violence, be against violence everywhere, not just violence in your neck of the woods. However, violence against men is very much normalised, and we don't have to look at boxing matches on pay-per-view to see it. Men are much more frequently the victims of violence than women. The extent to which we don't realise that, or don't think it is as important as violence against women, is a measure of its normalisation. From last week's edition of The Economist: (click to show/hide)The crucial problem, it seems to me, is that even the most house-broken of societies normalise the idea that men should be violent, and that as a result violence against men, and violence against women, most often comes from the same source. That's not to say that women are never violent, but a glance at the statistics on violent crime tells you which way to bet.

I can't read the text on YB's stick-grenade. At first I thought it was "Vorsprung durch Technik" but I suppose, if it were, that copyright lawyers would be calling on Jeph to say 'Audi!

SubaruStephen:

--- Quote ---Stick grenades were stored in cases for transport, and their fuse assemblies inserted prior to going into combat — a reminder for the user was stenciled on each explosive charge
("Vor Gebrauch Sprengkapsel einsetzen", in English: "Before use insert detonator").

The Wermacht clearly institutionalised the concept of 'idiot-proofing'.
