New Year, New Us: Resolutions 2015

(1/5) > >>

lepetitfromage:
Holy crap, guys. It's going to be 2015! This year had its ups and downs for all of us, I'm sure. But what are YOU doing to make next year more up and less down? I embrace the notion that the new year brings opportunity and a fresh start for all of us. Sure, its hokey but if it gives me the little push I need to get started doing things that I wanted to do anyway, why not?

So, what are your resolutions, goals, plans, etc for the new year? How did you do on your resolutions from last year?

I'm turning 30 next year which is crazy and scary but exciting. I could probably sum up my resolutions into one and just say that I'm going to seek happiness. I have a few specific goals in mind but I'll get to them after my other favorite year-end tradition: the 2014 resolution reflection.

--- Quote ----Drink more water. I've talked about this before here, I hate the taste of water. I can deal with some bottled water but dislike the idea of all the waste it creates. I drink a lot of coffee and tea and started drinking Mio and Tang. Much better than before, but I just have GOT to get over this water thing.

--- End quote ---
I was doing great with this one for a while. Ok, like 2 weeks. And then crappy for a few months and then good for another few weeks. Hydration is still not a priority yet but I'm getting there. Slowly.

--- Quote ----Eat more fruits and veggies. Eat less crap. Less processed foods, less fat, less sodium, less junk. There is no way I'll even consider cutting it all out completely because let's face it- food that is bad for you tastes damn good. But food that is good for you tastes just as good, if not better.

--- End quote ---
I definitely got better with this one! I've been trying to keep better stuff in the house and not slip up at the grocery store. I've also identified my biggest hurdle with this one- time. It's so much quicker to toss something in the oven or microwave and be done with it but planning ahead has helped with this one.

--- Quote ----Do some yoga. I'm contemplating 29 classes by the time I'm 29. I think it's do-able! I need to find something to do with my FSA because I opted in for too much (we had 50% responsibility for our high deductible- now the company pays the first $3K). I just need an Rx for it, which I think I can get out of my GP. I found a local studio that offers a 30 class card for $270!

--- End quote ---
DID IT! I never got the class card I talked about but we signed up for a new gym and it really is wonderful. We pay about $50/month for a huge facility with a ton of classes included. I love the environment and I've gone to the gym 5 weeks in a row. Now, I can't imagine starting my week without my Monday yoga class.

--- Quote ----Do more cardio. I've been a regular at the gym this year (with the exception of sick time) but I want to do more high intensity stuff. Weights are great, but they don't really burn a lot of calories...

--- End quote ---
I did really well during the first half of the year, until work got insane.

--- Quote ----Work on the med thing. EVERY DAY. I've got a bizarro teenage rebellion thing happening with medication. Or "I'll take it later" and later turns into 2 weeks. They help me, there is no reason to behave like this.

--- End quote ---
This was pretty huge for me this year. I actually tapered off my meds in the late winter/early spring and it still blows my mind that I'm functioning without them. Kind of the exact opposite of my resolution, but I'm at a good place.

--- Quote ----Seriously start the 52 week organizing challenge. I've enforced a "project time"- 4 hours of productivity every Saturday. Have been at it for maybe 4-6 weeks? I just need to focus it a little bit more.

--- End quote ---
This was a failure. :-P

--- Quote ----Save more money. I've cut back a lot on frivolous expenses but my spending can be reined in a little more. I'd really love to do seriously bare bones grocery shopping- only buying shelf stable things at stock up prices and spending about $20 a week on meats/veggies.

--- End quote ---
This was too. Working at a grocery store really fucks up your grocery budget. Who knew?

--- Quote ----Read more books. Another possible 29 by 29.  :-)

--- End quote ---
Instead of reading books, I bought a smartphone. I'm not sure I know what a book IS anymore.

I'm keeping it short and sweet this year:

1. Do more things that make me feel good: Making art, reading books, doing more yoga, having more sex, cooking good food, (yeah, yeah....drinking water I guess), spending time with family and friends.

2. Make more money: Selling stuff I don't need anymore, selling arts & crafts, doing more face painting gigs, perhaps marketing my gift basket crafting skills?

3. Create a warm and welcoming home. I'm hoping to quit my second job after I pay off 2 credit cards and a vet bill. When I do that, I'll have more time for helping Nick around the house, cooking, cleaning and entertaining. We're really starting to talk more about a kiddo and I'm feeling the urge to nest. Having my family over for the holiday was so amazing and I want to feel those warm fuzzies more often than once a year. I want our home to be our sanctuary and a place where we can invite our family and friends to come and enjoy all that it has to offer.

Metope:
The only two I had for this year was 1. Don't buy any clothes, shoes, bags etc, and 2. Graduate. I succeeded in one of those!

For 2015 I'm easing up on the not buying stuff thing, I'm allowed to buy things if it's within my spending budget: Resolution 1. being that I need to start budgeting properly. I'm moving to a different country and starting to pay off my massive student debt next year, so having my finances in order is really important.

2. Move to WA, U.S.

3. Get married.

GarandMarine:

--- Quote from: GarandMarine on 01 Jan 2014, 15:45 ---So I want to work out more, continue my moves to eat better, and drastically reduce my soda pop intake.

--- End quote ---

I did work out more, not as much as I wanted but more.

I generally ate better this year.

My soda pop intake is still as bad as last year.

Thrillho:

--- Quote from: Gareth on 01 Jan 2014, 11:49 ---I have no fucking idea. I would try to quit smoking again but I just don't think I'd do it.

--- End quote ---

Uh... based on the last five months ago... I have done this. Fuck!

Well, this year I don't so much have a resolution, more of a project/self challenge.

I want to write a 50-song album. One about each American state.

I have never been to America. Ever. And as such, each song will be based only on what I can find out about a state on Wikipedia - I already know quite a bit about America so I will have to make sure I check on Wikipedia that anything I already know is cited on there.

This works out at about a song per week. I'm not sure if I'll upload one by one or two a massive upload towards the end of the year, but I've already got Delaware written in my head and my brother-in-law is lending me a synth that should bring some breadth to the proceedings.

So yeah. That's my stupid idea.
