To my knowledge, outside her family, only Marten and Emily are aware of Claire's trans status (and there are questions as to how clearly Emily may or may not understand it). In any case, as far as Tai knows, Claire has the same concerns about unplanned pregnancy as any other woman.
Additionally, condoms are hygienic barriers too. Claire is probably a virgin but Marten has had at least two regular and one casual sexual partner that we know about. Claire should certainly use protection, just in case.

Emily has probably shuffled the condoms around the library evenly, maybe using a RCNG (Random Cthulhu Number Generator) of her own creation.

You don't want Cthulhu to appear like "HAWT, wanna make it a threesome?" in the middle of sexytimes.
