And, depending on exactly when and where we're talking, almost everything else too. There's something about human brains that not only decides the weird shimmery liquid is obviously magic, but that it's exactly the sort of magic that will cure disease and stop you from aging. Both of which it does, in a highly technical sense, but not in a sense useful to the poor person who just consumed mercury.
