I'm terrible with Tempo

Hi, my name is Eric aand I suck at consistently playing songs at the right speed. I've played with drum machines for years that keep me on time. But I've gotten so bad playing acoustically that my partner is very frustrated because I start/play songs either too fast or too slow. If I play with a metronome I'm fine but once I play without a net I'm all over the board. And I tend to slow down a lot if I lay into the vocal. Help me internets!

Practice, practice practice I suppose.

I'm a foot tapper. That really helps me keep rhythm, because it's something independent of my guitar that I can rely on to be in time
