WCDT: Strips 2892 to 2896 (9th - 13th February 2015)
BenRG:
Well it's the week after one of the biggest moments (and, possibly, one of the most controversial moments) in the history of QC. Where can we go from here?
I feel that owe fellow members something of an explanation. The reason that I keep saying 'time skip' is twofold. Firstly, for the past few weeks I've on several occasions felt that Jeph is wrapping up short-term plot-lines and the only real way to move forwards is to jump ahead to a point in-universe when the longer-term plot lines start to mature. Secondly, I really didn't think that there was any way for Jeph to get certain milestones past in character interactions in the current in-universe time frame.
I think last week probably proved me wrong on both those
To me, there are two obvious themes for next week and both are associated with Claire and Marten:
Firstly, Clairten Pillow Talk - This idea puts me in mind of the episode epilogues in Hill Street Blues, which were inevitably Capt Frank Furillo and his lover, Joyce Davenport (a lawyer in the DA's office), in bed together talking about the lessons learned in the episode. You could probably pull something similar off with Marten and Claire just spending five joke-per-day strips in bed together, talking about their friends and what happens next in a character-building way.
Alternately, you could have The Morning After the Night Before - I more or less suggested this in last week's thread when I outlined some strips that could indicate how other characters might react to the change in the precise nature of Marten and Claire's relationship.
There are other options but it would require an arc focus switch.
What do you guys (and gals) think?
Rghfrgl:
Poor Marten. Everyone keeps keeping him up all night.
AprilArcus:
I can take Marten/Claire as read at this point.
Dora has just burned bridges with her brother and her best friend in under a week. If we don't check in with her soon, I am going to feel cheated.

Next he'll be kept awake by Pintsize singing murder ballads from the closet in which he's been locked. Then Dora will call looking for advice on handling Faye; Sven will call for advice on handling Dora. Sunup. Veronica will call insisting that Marten and Claire join she and Jim for breakfast. Hanners will require help with something vaguely shady but disturbingly nonspecific (that later turns out to be nothing). Steve will call Marten for drinks. Marten will pass out at the bar, and fall asleep for the next 72 hours of comic time (four to five weeks real time), whereupon Jeph will tie off a few remaining dangly plot points. Marten will wake up, wonder why everyone's acting so different, and refuse to believe he's only been out a few days.

Yeah, the Svenpocalypse has been just kind of hanging now for so long, and the Faye issues added on, it just seems like stuff with Dora just happens and then we see nothing else from it again.
