Comic Discussion > QUESTIONABLE CONTENT

anahata:
I'm not even sure Emily did have much of a real character when introduced. She was always the wacky caricature, and I seem to remember people complained about that on this forum back then.
I like her better since the date with Clinton, because she seems to have shown some ability to have a coherent conversation, even if we didn't see all the details.
ReindeerFlotilla:
Clinton and Emily are not really a match made in heaven.
These means there are four possible outcomes for this story.
1) They have actual struggles, fumbling toward some. We learn who they are beyond their surface treatments. Rainbows and Hearts, sitting in a tree. Kay eye ess ess, and all that rot.
2) They have actual struggles, fumbling toward some. We learn who they are beyond their surface treatments. Storm clouds and slow sad music. Perhaps a mime trapped in an invisible box.
3) Jeph drops the ball. It goes to a silly punchline, It is otherwise abdondoned.
4) Jeph drops the ball. Go directly to rainbows and hearts. Do not pass GO. Do not collect any plot or character development.
That's about as comprehensive as it gets.
As for subtle clues, if Jeph's doing more than comic relief, then he's doing just fine. Emily is being her normal, not quite present self, and Clinton is 20something who has never touched a boob. I've touched plenty of boob and I hardly know what to make of myself or anyone else after 1 date. Those first dates that have gone fairy tale well have always been with wildly incompatible people. Those dates that left me wondering tended to lead some place not too bad. And seemingly wildly compatible people don't find me attractive.
I'm just one guy, so I'm hardly the ur-case for humanity, but there's really nothing to see here. We don't have enough info to know what either of their motives are.
Which is, come to think of it, kinda dull.
Eh. It was enough to get me to write this comment. Good enough for governement work.

They are fuzzy.
Perfectly Reasonable:
--- Quote from: TRVA123 on 04 Jul 2015, 07:26 ---When Emily was introduced she was a real character, she had the potential to develop and was more nuanced. Now she seems to be a caricature. I don't see any potential for character growth. The sense that nothing will really impact Emily and that she seems to purely exist to be "quirky and weird" makes me care less about her as a character.

Would you like Raven back? (You do realize that Emily is Raven 2.0?)
Omega Entity:
I'd argue that Raven was at least capable of carrying on a coherent conversation most of the time. She was flaky and kind of a ditz, but she still managed to seem like she could function, if not normally, in normal society.
Emily, on the other hand, seems to have become more and more out of it, for lack of a better phrase. Or maybe more unrealistically disassociated with how most human beings function in real life. She seemed quirky but at her base, still resembled a reasonably functional person early on. Now she seems to be weird just for the sake of being weird, without any of the relatable traits she had before.
