BenRG:
Just another thought about Claire and Clinton: For a while, I've thought that they're a good example of two siblings who love each other as siblings should but don't really like each other very much. There is one bit of evidence that doesn't fit with this idea though: What were they doing together in today's strip? As far as I can tell, there is no indication that there was a higher cause for them to meet, they just got together in the park to spend time together. The fact that they've taken time out from their academic schedules to spend a morning or afternoon together just talking (and allowing Clinton to start raving to Claire about a weird dream he had where Hannelore launched a rocket shaped like a butt) indicates that they actually quite like each other's company.

I just think that the two Augustus kids have abrasive personalities and this is reflected in their speech patterns. Edit that out and you see that Claire thinks that Clinton is far too good a person to string Emily along. Oh, and that listening to other people's description of their dreams is weird and there are few people actively enjoy it.

Boy! Haven't Claire and Clinton changed in appearance a lot since their first appearances in the strip? Claire is a lot more aware of the fact that she can be attractive and dresses appropriately. Clinton has clearly decided to abandon the 'tech nerd' look altogether!

Xcarissa:
As somebody with a brother close to my age (older, but mentally younger), this interaction between Clinton and Claire - and the fact that they seemed to be hanging out for no particular reason - seemed 100% normal to me.

Also, as someone with a dad who sucks, I'm really interested to hear more about how Clinton and Claire's dad sucks. I like story arcs and characters that I can relate to!

Granted yes I know that not every pair/set of siblings is like this, but usually when you've been stuck living with someone relatively close to your age for most of your life, and they in turn have been stuck living with you for all of theirs, it doesn't matter how much you care about each other, you *are* going to get on each other's nerves, sometimes a whole heck of a lot. And yes, the catty banter is part of that wonderful package deal. :P

No, I just treat my younger brother like a person, you know? Yes, younger siblings are annoying, but Clinton's 21 and Claire's 24, and they're not living together any more. Clinton's living on the campus while Claire still lives at home. At this stage, sibling relationships change - you don't see each other that much any more, both are out of puberty, parents don't have that much influence any more, so you can actually enjoy the time you spend together because you don't have to spend it together at all. So, if they were 10 and 13, those insults would be normal and very usual for a sibling relationship, but they are adults now, with responsibilities and limited time. Why would you choose to spend that time with somebody who just insults you?

If memory serves, he cheated on their mom and left the family.

And that really is all we know about him so far. He hasn't been mentioned much in the story. We don't even have a name for him, aside from maybe 'Mr Agustus'. And that's assuming the family or the kids at least had/kept his last name.
