--- Quote from: Nepiophage on 19 Aug 2015, 20:21 ---Faye is certainly enjoying her new job. But she should use some protective gear. No eye protection except ordinary spectacles! Wearing a T-shirt! Eeeek!

--- End quote ---

I didn't see any welding equipment. Who knows what methods she's using? Maybe she knows secrets

--- End quote ---

That's an angle grinder that she's holding. Swarf in the eyes is very unpleasant.

--- End quote ---

You use words I don't know, so I assume you know what you're talking about.

On the other hand, I'm about as well-sighted as Faye (My vision is 20/1600, where legally blind is 20/400) and I can say personally that at least on gun ranges, they consider glasses as thick as mine to be equal protection to protective goggles.

They don't even test me without the glasses anymore, because it always goes "... um, E?"

ReindeerFlotilla:
Debris from grinding can come at the eye from many angles. It's not quite the same as blowback. Goggles would be the thing.

That said, lots of people with tool skills will flaunt best practice and carry the scars to prove it.

Is it cold in here?:
Yes, no substitute for side shields, even though my optician told me once that my polycarbonate lenses could stop a .22.

BenRG:
It's pretty clear that this is close to Faye's dream job - cutting open someone so they can go back to inflicting destruction!

Here's my concern: Working for the URFC (Underground Robot Fighting Championship) is ultimately going to turn out to be destructive and negative for her. For all the enjoyment and fulfilment it gives her, it's ultimately reinforcing negative personality qualities, to wit sadism and using others for her own amusement. I wonder if she's eventually going to have to quit because she doesn't like the person that it is making her become.
