WCDT Strips 3076 to 3080 (24-30 October 2015)

NyxDarkness:
As I gaze upon the second to last panel of 3079, I realize there are feelings welling up from within me that I never thought I would have.... Claire is seriously 100% sexy. I used to think she was cute, but there's SO much more to it...

QuestionableIntentions:
I'm probably get hell for my opinion: Am I the only one getting a bit tired of practically every female character written being a badass? (Even Hanners can assert herself, i don't think we have ever seen any of the males do that.) Not just in QC but in other stuff as well?

It's like every author is afraid to write timid or not-smart or, well, weak female characters.

But it would make for a much more realistic cast and story.

I liked timid, dorky Claire.

Is it cold in here?:
I take it that it's a wider range of character types that you would find realistic, not that you think weak timid non-smart women are more realistic.

Hannelore is no Emma Peel, Raven never showed any fighting ability, and as for Cosette or Marigold ...

Badasses in a peaceful environment make for good humor. Broadsword in a coffee shop? Funny.

There's also the comic's overall theme of people overcoming limits and problems. Claire fighting timidity is part of the same pattern as Faye learning to allow relationships and Hannelore living a kinda-sorta normal life.

Tova:
I'll just add that Marten is perfectly capable of asserting himself when he needs to. And on those occasions, the forums all reliably respond by saying something along the lines of "OMG has Marten grown a spine?" and then apparently forget all about it until the next time it happens.

None of the characters are 100% confident in 100% of situations. That seems fairly realistic to me.

Claire was very confident here because she could fall back on an area of her particular expertise.

BenRG:
So, I'm not a tech head. Would I be right in saying that, basically, Claire has threatened to simply lobotomise Pintsize by dumping a snapshot of the entire Internet a few years back straight onto his memory?

Actually, none of Jeph's characters are like that and never have been. Claire has always had an aggressive, assertive side; it just was that it took specific circumstances to bring it out... like today.
