That's desperately sad... But what's the solution? That feature to detect movement sounds good, but surely there's only so much the developers can't do to stop people from doing crazily dangerous stuff while play. The only alternative would be to ban it outright I guess.

I suppose they could make it so it doesn't work at all over a certain speed.

IIRC, above a certain speed, it makes one hit something to the effect of "I'm a passenger" in order to do certain things.  But that only solves the speed issue.  With Niantic's other game, I know that I routinely flout traffic laws on my bike.  If I was less observant…

What's banning going to do? It won't stop them from texting or playing some other game while driving.

Except it won't be a single game with a critical mass of popularity and media attention at fault, so we'll all feel more comfortable, I suppose.

I don't have a good alternative suggestion, unfortunately. Mass advertising showing graphic consequences of your attention being diverted while driving, maybe.
