???
Which strip?
BenRG:
I forget the strip number but Hannelore has had an anxiety nightmare where she dreamt she had been kidnapped by her evil identical twin, who was a contract assassin and that she was about to be murdered so her twin could take over her life and escape the authorities. That strip was genuinely disturbing on several levels, especially Hannelore's genuine terror at the scenario.
Another strip had Hannelore hallucinating she had taken over her mother's company and was about to execute a James Bond villain-style global genocide for some reason. This hallucination was so real and compelling that Faye and Dora had to snap her out of a panic attack.

some Heavy joiking
--- End quote ---
If memory serves, the j being said like a y comes from Old Latin.
There's some debate on what Latin originally sounded like, but the Germanic languages actually help with that.
Method of Madness:
From what I remember learning, there was no J in Latin (for example, Julius Caesar would've been Iulius Caesar and have been pronounced Yulius Kye-zar). It's also why Jesus's cross had INRI. The Is stood for Jesus and Jews.
oddtail:
I'm not sure what the origin of the letter "j" is, but pronouncing "j" is sort of an aberration in English. Most European languages pronounce it either as the sound that English spells as "y", or as the sound "s" in "measure":

Also, as the map in the link gives no pronunciation for "j" in Italy, I'm assuming modern Italian doesn't have the letter, continuing the tradition of the Latin language?
